A Morning With the Seiberts | Flower Mound Documentary Family Photos

A family’s first home holds a special place in their hearts. For the Seiberts, this is their first house and also the place where they brought their baby boys home from the hospital. This is the home where they showed love and hospitality to friends and family and made memories in the process.

When I found out the Seiberts were going to be moving 1500 miles away I suggested a documentary family session. My camera and I joined them for a normal morning at home–completely unposed and unscripted. The result is more meaningful (and way less stressful) than if we had planned a session in a scenic location with coordinating outfits. The backgrounds, the clothes, and the activities are all important pieces of their family in this phase of their lives. There is beauty in our ordinary, and I believe that these images will grow even more beautiful to them with the passage of time.

And by hanging out I mean lots of bouncing, swinging by the ankles, and chasing balloons. Who needs a trampoline when you have a trundle bed?

The Seibert family loves the outdoors so I knew we’d be spending some time in their backyard. These two active boys practically require time outside each day. I’m especially glad we were able to get photos of the family with their tire swing. Mom actually put it together! It won’t be like this for long but right now the boys don’t match up when it comes to using the swing. Big brother loves going as high and as fast as his daddy can get him going. Little brother wants to join in but then the swing has to go slow and steady. As they get older, though, the age gap will feel smaller and smaller. I bet they become a daredevil team in just a few years’ time.

Apple slices painstakingly peeled by mom, a booster seat, sippy cups, plastic dishes, and even play-doh tools on the counter. Bedtime books, a sound machine, the glider, a cozy blanket. The years when your children are young come with a unique set of objects and routines. So rarely do you know when you’re doing something for the last time, but once they’re in the past even the ordinary things become special. My job is to document the very things that seem insignificant now but will be treasured memories in the future.

Just a peek is all they will need to remember that their Texas home was full of laughter, activity, and most of all, love.

You can see more fun-filled photos from this in-home documentary family session in the slideshow below. If the embedded video isn’t playing correctly for you, check it out at A Morning with the Seibert Family.

Did looking at these images make you wonder what you might do during your own  documentary family session? If so, I’d love to talk to you about it! Some clients know right away what they want me to document, but others prefer to have me help them identify the activities that tell their story best. Either way, I look forward to getting to know your family!
